Cell-channel and mouse behavioral research

Evidence reviewed September 13, 2026.

Research overview and identity

PE-22-28 is a shortened spadin-related peptide investigated in neuroscience research. It is a seven-amino-acid experimental compound, and its modified derivatives should be distinguished from the parent PE-22-28 sequence.

Mechanism under investigation

A primary research program examined inhibition of the TREK-1 potassium channel using electrophysiological assays. A measured channel effect is a mechanistic observation; it does not independently establish an antidepressant effect in humans.

What the studies report

A 2017 study tested PE-22-28 and derivatives in engineered cells, mouse behavioral models and neuronal assays. It reported TREK-1 inhibition and changes in behavioral and neuronal markers. Terminal changes and other modifications affected activity, making the exact tested structure important. [1]

Limits of the evidence

Mouse behavioral tests do not reproduce the full complexity of clinical depression. The cited work is preclinical and does not establish human effectiveness, onset, duration or long-term safety. Results for optimized derivatives should not be assigned to every PE-22-28 preparation.

Matching research material to a paper

Check the material identity, formulation and analytical methods against the study methods. A product name or milligram amount alone does not demonstrate experimental equivalence. Published research does not establish the identity, purity or potency of a retail batch; batch-specific analytical documentation must be assessed separately.
