How it works
Thiamine diphosphate is a cofactor in glucose, amino-acid and lipid metabolism. It supports enzyme reactions rather than supplying calories itself.
Simplified mechanism map. It does not represent a proven treatment outcome.
What the evidence can tell us
The consequences of deficiency are well established. Benefits from correcting deficiency do not mean extra thiamine improves energy in a person with adequate status.
Safety and important limits
Alcohol dependence, malabsorption and some medicines can affect status. Suspected deficiency, neurological symptoms or persistent fatigue deserve clinical assessment.
