How it works
EPA and DHA contribute to membrane structure and signaling. ALA is a precursor, but conversion to EPA and DHA is limited.
Simplified mechanism map. It does not represent a proven treatment outcome.
What the evidence can tell us
Triglyceride lowering has clinical evidence, particularly for prescription formulations. Cardiovascular outcomes vary by population and product; food, supplements and prescription medicines are not interchangeable.
Safety and important limits
Higher-dose trials have reported atrial-fibrillation risk in some groups. Review use with a clinician, especially with anticoagulants or heart-rhythm conditions.
