Cerebrolysin
Quick summary
A mixture of peptides from pig brain with neurotrophic-like activity, widely studied in neurological research. Research focus: neurotrophic factors and neural recovery models. This page leads with SRP's low-and-slow starting dose.

Mechanism
A mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides that appear to mimic the activity of neurotrophic factors.
Research areas
- neurotrophic factors
- neural recovery models
Storage & reconstitution
Supplied as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder in a sealed vial. Unopened vials are generally kept cold and away from light. Labs usually reconstitute it with bacteriostatic or sterile water, letting the liquid run down the vial wall and swirling gently instead of shaking. The solution is then kept refrigerated.
Recommended starting dose (low and slow)
| Starting dose | Start at 20 mg once daily (subcutaneous). quotes 10-50 mL daily study courses (volume of the liquid product, not mg of peptide) - not comparable. |
|---|---|
| Frequency | Reported schedules: 20–32mg daily (titrate); Daily study courses. |
| Reconstitution | Examples: 60mg vial + 3mL diluent (as listed). |
Studied higher doses
Studies have used doses up to the amounts below. Higher doses can be dangerous. Whether a person can reach them safely depends on height, weight, activity level, training and pre-existing conditions. We recommend following the lower starting dose above, and contacting SRP with any questions.
| Highest amount reported in studies | 32 mg per day in (agree). 10-50 mL is a liquid volume and not comparable. |
|---|---|
| Step-up schedules reported | Example: 20 mg in week 1, 24 mg week 2, 28 mg week 3, then 32 mg from week 4 (20-32 mg daily, titrated). |

Frequently asked questions
What is Cerebrolysin studied for?
In research it is studied for neurotrophic factors and neural recovery models. A mixture of low-molecular-weight peptides that appear to mimic the activity of neurotrophic factors.
How is Cerebrolysin given in research?
Intramuscular injection or IV infusion in clinical research. See the dosing frequency block on this page for how often.
What amount should a researcher start with?
This page lists SRP's low-and-slow starting dose in the Recommended starting dose section. Higher amounts that appear in studies are listed separately with their safety context. Start with the lower dose and contact SRP with any questions.
